Playing to Backing Tracks
Playing along with backing tracks is another way to improve your sense of rhythm. Before playing the flute feel the rhythm. Bring it into your body. Once the body is moving to the rhythm begin to play along being sure that when you play a note it is played on the beat of the rhythm.

You may find it easier to begin by playing to drum rhythms. This is a good place to start by Barry Grueter on YouTube, titled Native Drum Backing Tracks.

There are numerous backing tracks on youtube.com. To get started, check out the backing tracks on Flutopedia. There are a few videos by Clint Goss and some tracks in A minor that you can play to.

Another of my favorite artists is Tom Bailey on youtube.com. He has hundreds of backing tracks in all major and minor keys. You can check out Tom Bailey Channel here.
Your flute will sound good with backing tracks is A minor (Am) or in C major. If you select a C major back track you will probably find the lowest note doesn't sound right. To Bailey has several Am tracks here:

In Accordance with the Indian Arts and Crafts Act

Sevenwinds Flutes (though similar in style) are not Native American Flutes. Sevenwinds Flutes are created as North American wooden flutes, and highly influenced by a great respect for the traditional Native way taught by my Native American brothers in whose teachings I am honored to receive; and blessed by Creator to offer the wonderful gift of the flute to all. Only truth can reveal honor and respect.
